Getting Unstuck
The inspiration I needed to get myself out of a writing slump.
It’s 10:52 on Wednesday night and I have yet to start writing my Thursday newsletter. I have been staring at my list of at least 50 different writing ideas, but none of them are calling for me to share. So many thoughts, so little words…Dare I say I am in a writing slump??
If you are currently reading this I finally figured out what to write (yay me!!!) but I will keep this little piece above in as a reminder that the words don’t always flow and it doesn’t always come naturally. It’s okay to get a little stuck, but what matters is what you do to get unstuck 💚
I know you’re probably thinking, so just don’t write anything this week and come back next even better. No big deal. And it’s true, I could take the week off, but I don’t want to. I know the words will come eventually, even if they are stuck WAY deep down. All I need is a little inspiration.
So what is my inspiration for today??
I have my past self, a journal prompt I wrote down 9 months ago, and the great outdoors to thank!
The journal prompt… “Go outside and describe what you see, hear, smell, and feel.”
Let me tell you, I picked the perfect day for this prompt. The sun was shining, blue skies, nice breeze. A complete 180 after having multiple days of heavy wind gusts and a few severe thunderstorms. Even if I hadn’t journaled, this still would have been a great mindfulness practice.
What did I see? Dark green grass after a healthy (happy) dose of rain, twigs and branches scattered around after the storms mentioned above, birds busy remaking the nests they may have recently lost, trees full of leaves swaying in the wind, bright blue skies without a cloud in sight. My favorite shade of blue is the sky.
What did I hear? The gentle serenade of the breeze passing through the trees, rustling the leaves together, the sweet sound of birds sharing their song.
What did I smell? The clean fresh Spring air, the soft aroma of bloomed flowers, the leafy “green” scent of cut grass, and the smell of smoke off in the distance.
What did I feel? Stepping out barefoot, I feel the coolness of the grass shaded by the trees, laying down closing my eyes feeling the sun warming my skin, the light breeze coming right behind to cool me down. I feel relaxed, peaceful, happy, and content. I wish I could stay here all day.
This inspiration activity reminded me that I want to spend more mindful moments in nature. And it got me thinking 🤔
June is National Great Outdoors Month and I don’t know about you, but I will be celebrating. For myself, I decided I will create a calendar with 30 nature activities for the 30 days in June. I will share the calendar either on notes or in a separate post for anyone that is interested in joining in. What do you think??
Let’s chat

Not ready to become a paid subscriber, but if you still want to give extra support to my writing and The Mind Reset you can buy me a coffee :)
I think one tip that worked for me was to save potential headlines on 'Notes' in my phone. Whenever Im running out of ideas, I just look at it and try to pick one that I find relevant at that point in time.
I’ve been there before with the freak out of not knowing what to write a day before it’s time to publish 😂
